Work Halloween Fun

I even got two votes!

P.S. I'm the Black Swan!

This is my beautiful sister, Amanda (purple witch), at her work.

This is my other beautiful sister, Amy, at her work. They go all out there. The theme this year was "Sesame Street". She is Cookie Monster in case you couldn't tell.

Annual Jorgensen Halloween Party

It's that time of year again where we gather for family & fun in crazy costumes! Love it! You can see us as Harry Potter, Vampire Shane, the Goddess Venus, and Little Red Riding Hood. Something's not quite right, though...

That's more like it. Everyday Crazy!! This is us pretty much everyday... without the costumes.
The look on Lex's face. He's so funny.
Shane. He's just crazy.
Me. I'm like, really?
And then Isabel. Cute little listener. In front of a camera anyway.
Let's move on, shall we?
(Can you tell I love this picture? Moving on now, I promise...)

Vampire's hungry. Guess that means it's time for dinner!

 THE DETAILS

Shelly & Brian are surgeons. We ate "lungs & a heart" as part of our meal!

Cute little Jessica! She does this too well!

One of the games we played was an altered version of tag. You have to tag the person in front of you while the person behind you is trying to tag you as well. The adults played in pairs first and Shane & I won! Next, a kid and one adult played. Brian & Lex won!

Grandma & her musical bags game. Isabel didn't understand that it was OK to not get a bag when the music ended, so here she is pouting and Grandma trying to comfort.

PLINKO!
Shane so wonderfully & kindly spent three days making this game from scratch. So, don't be surprised if you see it a few more times at some other parties! We also played a ping pong game, balloon darts, and a relay race involving pee in a bed pan! It was really yellow water, but it was warm so it made it quite gross anyway!

Ursula and the little mermaid, Ariel!
(You'd better dress up next year Todd so you can get a picture with your cute family!)

Meet & Greet @ Frightmares!

We spent another evening at Frightmares and the first thing the kids wanted to do was watch the Frightmare dance shows. They were just about to start, so it was good timing. Afterwards, they stuck around for pictures. Isabel only wanted to stand by the "kitty" who was originally standing in the back, but came forward for her. It was sweet.

It's definitely starting to get a bit chilly for Lagoon after the sun goes down!

GOAL!

A great Saturday it was. Lex made his first soccer goal of the season! Just as I was wishing Shane was sitting by my side to enjoy the beautiful fall weather as Isabel played ring-around-the-rosie around my chair, Lex made a goal. His reaction was the funniest thing. Instead of raising his hands in the air and running down the field like most the other boys do, he stood there, turned around, and looked at me with the most shocked expression on his face like "did you see me make that goal?". He said he was so proud of himself for finally making it. And of course, I was too.

A Typical Fall School Morning

She's always so happy. She's a morning person just like her daddy. Never misses a day to come bouncing down the stairs with a smile on her face!

Our Sweet Son~ How to Handle a Bully

Monday was a holiday for me, so I got to pickup Lex from school with Shane & Isabel. I see Lex and know something is wrong because of the way he is walking to the car; very slow, feet dragging, melancholy expression. I immediately ask what is bothering him. He says he wants to tell us when we get home.

So, we sit down in the kitchen. He has our full attention. Lex explains that he was playing on the slides at recess with his friends and a boy taller than him (but still in 2nd grade) blocks the bottom of the slide so that no one can go down. Lex asks him to move so they can continue playing their game. The tall boy insists that he's not moving. Lex then asks if the tall boy wants to play with him & his friends. The tall boy chooses to continue to bully calling Lex's parents stupid & such and somewhere during this story Lex is pushed. Needless to say, Lex was bothered by this & told his teacher after recess, but since he didn't know the kid she couldn't do much at that time.

Lex has had issues with bullies at school. Last year and now this year. It even started the first week of school! This year it's never been the same kid more than once or twice and never someone he knows from class. Just random so he can't tell his teacher who it is. Well, this always gets him down as I'm sure it would any kid being bullied, but he keeps on going. I only feel helpless. We tell him what we can to continue to be strong. I offer to call the school to help; to make sure someone is watching. (What I really want to do is march over to that school, find those bullies, and tell them what's on my mind!)

Anyway, Lex did ask me to talk to his teacher this time (usually he says he can handle it). Mrs. Crown, his  teacher, called me last night to tell me the whole story because kids at this age don't always retell events exactly how they happened. She also told me that Lex was able to point out the kid to her at recess the next day because he saw him again. Mrs. Crown did what any good teacher would do. She first confirmed that the story was the way Lex had told her. She was surprised to find out that Lex had even asked him if he wanted to play with him. With Love & Logic, she showed empathy to the tall kid about how sad she was that he chose to continue to bully instead of choosing to play along. After a little more adult intervention, she stepped back to see how the boys would handle it from there. The tall boy asked if Lex would like to play with him at next recess!

Mrs. Crown was so proud of Lex for his kind & mature actions, that she told his entire class about how he handled this situation. We are also so proud of him. Mrs. Crown could not stop gushing over Lex and how she loves having him in her class. She brought me to tears and as I told Lex how proud of him I was, I could not keep from crying. From the day he was born, Lex has always had a special, sweet soul about him. Even strangers could see it. As he grows, he continues to show us that even though there are mean people in this world, we can still show them kindness and befriend someone in need. In this case, the tall boy was asking for attention & instead of telling him to go away, Lex asked if he wanted to play. I can only hope to remember to display this sort of attitude the next time someone isn't so kind to me.

Frightmares!

We finally made it! It's been a busy autumn for us. Hopefully we'll go a few more times before Lagoon is closed for the season.

Even more fun when the weather is perfect & you don't have to wear a coat!

It can't always be good times at Lagoon with a four year old. Pouting because her prize is smaller than Lex's prize. Crazy thing is they haven't played with these silly game prize toys since!

My favorite is watching the dancers. Shane will tell you I'm a dancer at heart and that's all that counts! Just don't ask me to dance in public. You know that dance scene of Elaine from Seinfeld? That's basically me :)

ARUP Viro Halloween Party

Shane decided he wanted to have a party for his department at work. He asked me to come up with the decor & desserts. You know how I love to throw a party, so I was excited! When he chose a fall party, I initially thought of autumn colors, but when the date moved into October I knew it had to be a Halloween party! Our favorite time of year! Here are all the gory details (& some not so gory, too!).

Disney Day 3 with the Viners

We met up with our friends on the third day for Disney's Character Breakfast. Good food and no lines for pictures with Minnie & her friends. Isabel was in love with Minnie this trip. She couldn't wait to give her a hug!

GROUP HUG!

All the characters got into dance mode during breakfast.  All the kids were invited to dance as well.

Chip (or possibly Dale?) causing trouble for Lex & Shane again!

Since this was our third day in Disney & had been on all our favorite rides a number of times, we didn't mind standing in line for these guys! This is the first year we've seen them for a picture opportunity.

About Me

My photo
Shane and I met my senior year of high school in 1996 and were married in 2000. It's just crazy to think we've known each other for more than a decade and still learn new things about each other. We both graduated from the University of Utah. I have a degree in Finance and Shane has a degree in Biology. We are both enjoying jobs in our respective fields. Our favorite thing to do is travel. Before we started a family, we spent two weeks in Europe touring Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and France. We want to see the world and hopefully take our children along with us when they are older. Our children are our life. Alexander "Lex" is our little man at 7 years old. He loves to try lots of new things. He's currently enrolled in soccer, tumbling & boys' hip hop. Isabel (or Bel as Shane likes to call her) is 3 1/2 years old. She is also enrolled in tumbling & dance. All in all, life is wonderful and we couldn't be happier.
